Static/robotic voice when making phone calls.

I use Apple CarPlay in my car, lately every time I am on a phone call I have to hang up 5-6 times because the other person can’t hear me due to static or robotic sounding voice. Does anyone else experience this? Is it the quality of cord I have causing it? Or just Apple Car Play in general?
