Magic Keyboard keys require hard pressing to respond on iPad Pro

Thanks for clarifying. Since you’ve already cleaned the contacts and the keyboard worked normally until recently, I’d try one more simple check: restart the iPad with the Magic Keyboard attached, then remove and reconnect it and test typing in Notes.

There isn’t a setting that changes how hard you have to press the Magic Keyboard keys. If several keys still only respond to unusually firm presses, that points more toward a keyboard hardware problem.

You don’t need another keyboard to confirm that. I’d contact Apple Support and explain that you’re housebound so they can tell you what service options are available where you live:

Having to press the keys hard isn’t normal.

I’d remove the iPad from the Magic Keyboard first and gently clean the Smart Connector contacts on both the iPad and keyboard with a soft, lint-free cloth. Then reconnect it and restart the iPad. Apple recommends those steps when a Magic Keyboard isn’t responding correctly.

If it’s only certain keys that need extra pressure after that, I’d suspect a problem with the keyboard itself rather than an iPadOS setting. If possible, testing the Magic Keyboard with another compatible iPad would help narrow that down.
