Remove Download After Played Not Working
I have all the settings to remove downloads after play and it just doesn’t work.
I see multiple threads in this forum closed by Apple to avoid further comments without them bothering to actually resolve the issue. Poor customer service.

I have both global settings to remove downloads after play as well as per podcast.

When the Apple Podcasts "Remove Played Downloads" setting fails despite being enabled globally and per-podcast, it is a persistent software bug. Temporary workarounds include manually clearing downloads or resetting the toggle.
Try this
Toggling the feature: Go to Settings > Podcasts, turn off "Remove Played Downloads," restart your iPhone, and turn the setting back on.
Bulk clearing: Open the Podcasts app, go to the Library tab, tap Downloaded, tap the More button (three dots), and select Remove All Downloads.
Manual deletion: Swipe left on a specific played episode in your downloaded list and tap Remove Download, or long-press the episode and select it manually.
Storage check: Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Podcasts to see if local data cache files are stuck and need a manual purge from the system menu.
