Locating and reviewing iMovie and iDVD movie projects

The default location for iMovie projects is ~/<yourusername>/Movies.

The default location for iDVD projects was ~/<yourusername>/Documents.

But you may have saved them anywhere.

iMovie projects have the file extension .iMovieLibrary AFAIK, iMovie 10 (the current version) can import & upgrade iMovie projects created in previous versions 7, 8 & 9.

iDVD projects had the file extension .dvdproj AFAIK there is no app that can open iDVD projects other than iDVD itself. iDVD was discontinued in 2011 and is not compatible with any version of macOS from Catalina onward.

BTW, .iMovieLibrary files are packages. They contain the actual iMovie project file(s) as well as all the clips & other assets used in the project(s). Note that an iMovie Library may contain multiple projects.

Similarly, a .dvdproj file is a package that contains an iDVD project and associated assets. An iDVD package contains only a single iDVD project.

If necessary, package files can be opened and the contents inspected. Right-click the package file, then select Show Package Contents. A Finder window will open showing the contents of the package file. Be very careful doing this, as you could inadvertently corrupt the package file.

iMovie is still current. It's available for all Mac computers and most iPads and iPhones ... and it's free. You may already have it on your Mac. If not, you may be able to download it from the Apple App Store.

The closest replacement for iDVD is Roxio Toast. There are other DVD/BluRay apps, even some free ones, but they are mostly for burning DVD & BluRay discs, not for building projects like you could in iDVD.
