retrieve word file from deleted trash

Since you deleted the Word document yesterday and then emptied the Trash, the first thing to check is Time Machine. 

Open the folder where the document was originally located, then open Time Machine and use the timeline to go back to a point before the deletion. 

If the document appears, select it and click Restore.

If your Time Machine backup disk is not connected, Time Machine may still have a local snapshot from before the deletion. 

Apple says local snapshots are created approximately hourly and normally retained for 24 hours, so this is worth checking promptly. Apple — About Time Machine local snapshots

You can also use Finder with Time Machine to search specifically for the missing document.

On your Mac, you can check whether Time Machine is configured by going to  >> System Settings >> General >> Time Machine.

I would start with Time Machine before trying any third-party recovery software. 

Beneath the macOS Finder is a UNIX operating system. Once a file is emptied from the Trash, its former storage allocation is marked to be reclaimed by the operating system for other storage requests. In short, it is gone and there will be no file to recover.

That said, if you have a PDF export of that Word document, you can choose to open that PDF in Word v16.31 or later and it will be converted back to a Word document.

If you were backing up your Mac, there might be an old copy of the document in your backups – especially if you were using Time Machine.

But you can't get it back from the current Trash. Emptying the Trash was like letting a city garbage truck haul away your household trash to an incinerator or an unknown landfill.

FYI, while these can work if the storage device is a Hard Drive, they won't work if the storage device is an SSD because the block is moved out of use to be recycled so the block/data becomes inaccessible once the Trash has been emptied. If a file is lost due to file system corruption, then this may work to recover the file even from an SSD.

that is not my experience, trim Trim (computing) - Wikipedia means it may even work for longer

used undelete tools both on ssds and even on usb and sd cards.
