Muffled sound from iPad Air built-in speakers

How can I improve the sound quality on iPad Air. M2. iOS 26.6

the spoken word books on libby app sounds fine on my (Samsung) phone, almost too clear, but the same book sounds very muffled on the iPad. I am using the built in speakers, so the headphone adjustment option is not available.

Are you using a fitted case with your iPad? If yes, try removing it - and then reassess the sound quality. Some poorly made or badly fitted cases are known to interfere/block the iPad's speaker grilles.

Otherwise, available sound adjustments for iPad are limited to those available from iPad settings:

Settings > Sounds >

Of the limited options available, you might be well advised to ensure that Reduce Loud Sounds is set to OFF.

Beyond the available native controls, any other available settings will be exposed from within the specific App(s) that you are using.
