USB-A to USB-C cable compatibility for SSD on new Mac

A simple question for you tech heads from an 84 year old, will any USBa to USBc cable work for a 1TB SSD on a new Mac or do I need a special one.

iMac 24″, macOS 26.6

Pretty much any cable should work as long as it's rated for data and not just power delivery.

You can also just get an adapter too.

For cables it will depend on what your SSD has as a connection. Never seen one with a straight USB-A port on it. Usually they have either USB 3.1 Micro B or USB-C for more current ones.

USB Micro B to USB-C.

Are sure your SSD has a USB-A port on it where something like the one below could plug in to?

Thanks Phil, I've already tried the adapters, but with the weight of the cable and the adapter added the USBc do not have a firm enough fit to hold tight and the drive keeps disconnecting, but thanks for the advise that there is a Data cable as well as a power one, as that is all i've found so far. Thanks again.
