Audio file saving -40 to - 50db from input levels in logic

Logic with mac studio scarlet 18i20 gen 4. All the inputs look great while recording. Trying to track 8 channels for drums all mic'd up. Solid wave forms and nothing peaking or low input, faders set to zero. As soon as I playback the wave forms are tiny and the audio is -40/50db from where we tracked it in. Every once and a while it saves the same input level I set it on input, but then the next take right back to saved audio coming back at -40 to -50 db lower? I have reset everything to defaults. Re-installed but nothing fixes this. I was using a 2 channel scarlet input devices before with no issues.
