How to reset MacBook password using Apple Account or trusted device?
My son may have changed his Mac password when half asleep. He has no idea what it is. We tried several typical passwords. Of course, he got the computer when he was a teenager and can't find the recovery key. We've looked everywhere. It could be in a file cabinet in storage (we moved into a temporary place). After 3 hours at the Apple store, we bought a new computer because he needed it for college. My Apple ID is logged into his computer (according to support) and his old iPad is a trusted device. Can we use one of those methods to reset the password? (We were at a store in another state). What else is a trusted device for? I have a really hard time believing we are SOL.
