2024 Mac Mini Base Model No Power

2024 M4 mac mini no power - My M4 mac mini would run hot to the touch running OBS streaming software. Only once did the fans speed up and the chassis was hot to the touch. I turned it on two weeks ago to check emails and turned it off. Came back 45 min later and it would not turn on, no lights or chime. I'm a former IBM CE so I used my meter to verify 120V AC from the line cord. Per apple self service diagnostics I ordered the power supply and replaced. Still no power indication so I order the power button which hasn't arrived yet. If the logic board is the next recommended part I'm disposing this unit. Has any one else experienced overheating M4 mac mini?

Running warm during OBS use by itself wouldn’t necessarily indicate a fault. The M4 Mac mini can get quite warm under sustained CPU/GPU load, and the fan may stay relatively quiet unless temperatures require more cooling.

Since you’ve already verified AC power and replaced the power supply with no change, I wouldn’t keep replacing parts based only on guesswork. A failed power button is possible, but so are the logic board, internal power connections, or another component in the startup path.

Before buying anything else, I’d recheck every connector disturbed during the power-supply replacement and then follow Apple’s no-power troubleshooting flow exactly. If the power button replacement also makes no difference, getting a hardware diagnosis would probably be more economical than continuing to swap parts.

I also wouldn’t assume the earlier heat caused the failure unless there were shutdowns, temperature warnings, or other symptoms at the time.

Just an update: Using Apple’s M4 Mac mini service repair guide along with my troubleshooting experience as a former IBM CE, I replaced the power supply and power-button assembly with no change—the unit still has no power. The next FRU in the troubleshooting path would be the logic board, and I’ve decided it isn’t worth replacing. I’ve retired the Mac mini and replaced it with another Apple system better suited for my heavier workload. Thanks to everyone who responded and offered suggestions.

Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, the power supply replacement wasn't based on guesswork. I'm following the no-power troubleshooting procedure in Apple's 2024 Mac mini Self Service Repair Manual. After verifying AC input, I followed Apple's diagnostic path and replaced the power supply, which made no difference. I'm continuing through the documented troubleshooting process with the power-button assembly before making any decision about further repair. If the troubleshooting ultimately points to the logic board, I'll have to decide whether replacement is economically worthwhile.

M4 Mac mini — No Power / My Repair Experience

Posting this again because my previous post appears to have disappeared.

My M4 Mac mini developed a no-power condition. I verified 120V AC at the line cord and followed Apple's repair documentation. I replaced the power supply — no change. I then replaced the power-button assembly — no change.

The next repair path would be the logic board. At this point I've decided not to invest further in the repair.

I'm sharing my experience in case another M4 Mac mini owner encounters a similar no-power condition. I'm not suggesting this affects every M4 Mac mini. This is simply what happened with mine.

Going forward you should start using Macs Fan Control.

In the free version you can programme the fans to come on when it starts getting warm and speed up to maximum at a temperature of your choosing.

Macs Fan Control

The basic Mac settings are on a cliff edge . . . it waits until the Mac is about to burst into flames before kicking in . . . all because Apple values silence over longevity.

Thanks for the advice. I may give Macs Fan Control a try. At this point, though, after the overheating I experienced and the no-power failure, I've lost confidence in using this M4 for my heavier production workload. I'll still install the power-button assembly when it arrives and report back with the results.
