Unable to sign in to my Gmail account on my device. I have forgotten the password to my Gmail account and the system won’t let me sign in without sending the verification code to that email. I only have the phone number associated with that Gmail which is still active.

This is a Google Account recovery issue rather than an iPhone issue.
Since you still have the recovery phone number, go through Google’s account recovery process and choose “Try another way” if it keeps offering the Gmail address you can’t access. Google may then offer verification by text or another way to confirm the account is yours.
It’s best to do the recovery from a device, browser, and location you’ve used with that Gmail account before.
