iCloud for windows app sign in not working

I keep having an issue with the iCloud for Windows app, I try to log in and everytime i put in my details it just has a loading symbol and then dissapears and nothing happens, ive tried downloading the legacy version and updating (for which it made me reverify and then have the same issue again, would try to sign me in then close the tab and ask me to verify again) troubleshooting with resetting and repairs etc, with no luck. any help would be appreciated.

Since you’ve already tried repair/reset and reinstalling, I’d check two things before doing more with the app.

First, make sure you can sign in normally at iCloud.com with the same Apple Account. Also check Apple’s System Status page for any iCloud sign-in issues.

If that works, third-party antivirus, firewall, VPN, or other security software on the PC is worth checking. Apple specifically notes that security software can prevent iCloud for Windows from authenticating with Apple’s servers.

I’d also stick with the current Microsoft Store version rather than the legacy version. If the sign-in window still just disappears, temporarily disabling third-party security software for a test may help narrow it down.

Hey sorry for the late reply, but yeah I can sign in properly on icloud.com and the only way to even try signing in was downloading the legacy version and my sign in worked fine there, the microsoft store version just does not work at all, it just shows a loading circle in the password box and nothing happens (yes my password is correct). Turned off windows firewall, virus protection etc. and my VPN but no luck even after restarting.
