I'm on an old MacAir 2015 model and can't find the migration assistant. It's not where Apple's instructions for migration says it is (settings, general) and can't find it with search either. I have a brand new MacAir and want to transfer the lot over. Will it work from the new one, with a transfer cable?
I'm on ver 12.7.6 of Monterey. Works just fine.
On Monterey, Migration Assistant isn’t in System Settings. You’ll find it in Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant.
And yes, you can transfer directly from the 2015 MacBook Air to the new Mac. Apple supports transferring over Wi-Fi or a direct wired connection. The Macs don’t need to be running the same macOS version.
On the old Mac, choose “To another Mac.” On the new Mac, choose “From a Mac, Time Machine backup, or startup disk.”

You can also use a Time Machine backup of your 2015 MacBook Air to transfer your information to the new MacBook Air with Migration Assistant.
Connect the Time Machine backup drive to the new MacBook Air, open Migration Assistant from Applications >> Utilities, and select “From a Mac, Time Machine or startup disk.”
Select the Time Machine backup and then choose the information you want to transfer.
Apple states that Migration Assistant can transfer your documents, applications, user accounts and settings from a Time Machine backup. (support.apple.com)
