ADMISSION: An FCP Practical Joke That Backfired.

In Spring of 2011 the Final Cut Pro community was on tenterhooks as everyone knew that Final Cut Studio was about to be replaced by a new version (which turned out to be Final Cut Pro X).

Now everyone knows that I am an extremely serious person but on this occasion something took possession of me and filled me with devilment. I decided to play a practical joke . . . well 2 in fact!

The first one involved me doing a mockup of the upcoming version based on the recently introduced iMovie with the magnetic timeline. I published the video showing me working at my iMac with the "new" FCP interface.

It generated a small amount of amusement amongst FCP folk and that encouraged me to embark on Phase 2.

So on the 17th June 2011 I published this video on YouTube announcing that FCP X would be released on the 21st.

Lo and behold, on the 21st. June 2011 Final Cut Pro X came on sale.

I was immediately thrown into a dilemma.

People would immediately ask how I knew the release date and I might even be accused of divulging insider knowledge.

So to save the FBI (or whoever deals with these matters) booking a flight over to the UK I hastily made my public video into an unlisted one and posted another public one in its place with the release date censored, in the hope that nobody of importance had seen the original.

This is the version I censored in an attempt to keep my freedom and cash.
