Screen turned white after latest iOS update

Force Restart: Quickly press and release Volume Up, quickly press and release Volume Down, then press and hold the Side/Power button for up to 20–30 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Do not let go if you see a power-off slider. 

Recovery Mode Restore: Connect the phone to a computer (Mac or PC with iTunes/Finder), put it into recovery mode using the volume/side button sequence, and attempt an update or restore. 

If this is not working please Contact - Official Apple Support to set up hardware service for the iPhone

There is nothing to investigate here. The screen was on the verge of failing and simply restarting the iPhone pushed it over the edge. Things like this happen.

The bottom line here is that if the shop has notified you that you are responsible for repairs, the warranty on the phone has expired.

You can ask to speak to the manager......and we cannot predict what they may say......but I would be amazed if your phone is repaired at no charge.

The warranty has expired. If you read the terms of the warranty, you will pay for any repairs after the warranty has expired.

Sorry, but we are not Apple here. We are users like you on this user to user only forum. The fact is any electronic device can fail at anytime. What we see, is a phone was beginning to fail in ways unnoticed and sometimes in ways ignored, and then an update pushes the phone over the edge. It is almost always coincidental that the failure manifests after the burden of the update. But the update itself didn't break the phone. It just helped it along.

There are now more than 2.5 Billion devices out there and if the update broke them, this forum would be blown up with complaints, but it's not. Have there been any, yes. But not in high numbers, just like every with every other update over the years. If the update did this, the tech press would be all over this and it would be seen on the national news, but it's not.

Since you've been told you have to pay for this, it means the phone is no longer in warranty and you likely gambled when you bought the phone and didn't purchase an AppleCare+ Plan, which would have made this a non-issue. Sorry, but you lost this gamble as now you're responsible for paying to have the phone fixed. Just like you'd be expected to pay to have your car fixed if it's out of warranty, your stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, or virtually any other device you own.

You can appeal to Apple, again not here as no one posting here is with Apple. But Apple just doesn't typically make exceptions to servicing products out of warranty.
