Hi. I have a problem: I wanted to sell my iPhone 15 Pro Max, so I reset it and removed it from my iCloud. The person who was looking at it entered their own details. Now, when I try to turn it on, it asks for a 6-digit passcode.
That person refuses to help me.
I have the box and photo proof that it is my iPhone. Can Apple help wipe that person's data from my iPhone?
Sorry, but when they entered their credentials into the phone, they knew exactly what they were doing. They have also most assuredly placed the phone in Lost Mode by now and there's nothing anyone here on this user to user only forum can do, nor can Apple help you. I'm going to assume you live in Russia, where we're seeing variations of this story almost daily. Most are when someone wants to get something they couldn't get on their phone themselves and they let someone sign into the phone. But the end result is the same.
Having the box or photo proof is not sufficient for Apple to do anything. And if as we would assume is the case, the phone is now in Lost Mode, even if you had what Apple would require which is the original purchase receipt from Apple Directly or from an actual Apple Authorized Seller, which shows the serial number on the receipt, even Apple couldn't unlock the phone.
Note: They will likely try to scam you by telling you if you pay a ransom, they'll unlock the phone. DON'T PAY IT. They'll just take your money, demand more and they still won't unlock the phone.
You'll need to go buy a new cell phone at this point.
