The iPhone 7 ran iOS 10.0 when Apple introduced it in September 2016 – nearly ten years ago. You can update it to the latest release of iOS 15, but you cannot update it to iOS 16 - let alone iOS 17, 18, 26, or the soon-to-be-released iOS 27.

To upgrade to a modern version of iOS, you will need to purchase a new iPhone.

If you get the message; "iOS is up to date", then your iPhone has reached the end-of-life support for Software Updates to the latest iOS operating system, depriving you of new features created many years ago.

Many modern apps are not compatible, limiting the usability of your device.

You need a new iPhone.

Upgrading iPhone 7 to iOS 18:

You can't, as your device is incompatible with it; And, even if you could, only the latest-compatible iOS version would install.. See here: iPhone models compatible with iOS 18 - Apple Support. So, take this as a good reason to upgrade to a much newer device.
