iPhone locked after cancelled AppleCare+ Theft and Loss claim through AIG

My iPhone was locked when I initially submitted a Lost and Theft claim through AIG under my AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage. However, I cancelled the claim only a few hours later after the device was found.

AIG informed me that the lock would be removed and the device restored within 24–48 hours. However, 10 days have now passed, and my iPhone is still locked.

Since then, I have been caught in a frustrating cycle between AIG and Apple:

  • I have spoken with several senior Apple Support advisors, who confirmed that the phone was locked through AIG and told me that I needed to contact AIG.

  • I contacted AIG, and they confirmed that the claim was cancelled. They told me that since the claim is cancelled, if the iPhone remains locked, I must contact Apple Support.

  • I physically drove to an Apple Store, where a technician attempted to assist me but was unable to remove the lock.

  • I submitted an Activation Lock support request to Apple 6 days ago, and I still have not received a response or resolution.

  • Apple Support chat has repeatedly told me that there is a specific team handling Activation Lock cases and that I must wait for them to contact me.

  • I have now been given different estimated timeframes, including 3 days, 10 days, and even 30 days, with no clear explanation of when my case will actually be resolved.

I am the legitimate owner of this iPhone. The device was covered under AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, which is a service I paid for specifically to protect my device. I only became aware that the Theft and Loss portion is handled by a third-party insurance provider, AIG, when I needed to use the coverage.

I can imagine this is frustrating. But this is a user to user only forum. No one posting here works for Apple or AIG. As such, there's nothing anyone here can do to help you. You'll have to continue pushing on AIG for help.
