What causes my export movie on FCPX TO stall at 17%

Exporting will pause if you begin working in FCP while the export is happening. It'll start up again as soon as FCP is idle. Is it safe to assume this is NOT what you're talking about? What's happening with the background rendering window when it stalls?

Start by telling us what version of FCP and macOS, how long is your project, what drive you are exporting to, and how much free space there is in your system drive and the drive where you are exporting to.
Also: does this happen with one project specifically? If you make a new project, add a few clips, does that export?
