Installing Final Cut Pro 7

Two things ....

Final Cut Pro 7 is a 32-bit app. It was discontinued in 2011 when OS X Lion (10.7) was released. macOS Mojave (10.14) was the last version of macOS that it could be installed & run on.

An upgrade serial number is also not sufficient for installing the app. You would also need a full license serial number in order to install the upgrade version.

If the disc is an upgrade version of Final Cut Studio/Final Cut Pro, the installer needs a valid serial number from a qualifying earlier version. The serial number printed with the upgrade package by itself may not be enough.

Also, Final Cut Pro 7 is very old and won’t install or run on current versions of macOS. If you can post the exact wording of the “serial upgrade” error and which macOS version you’re trying to install it on, that would help narrow it down.

Why do you want to install an app that became obsolete 15 years ago?

If you simply want to edit videos in the style of FCP 7 you should download the free version of DaVinci Resolve.

It is the nearest thing you will now get to FCP 7 but incredibly more advanced.

You can download older versions if your Mac is not able to use the latest.

Are you doing this because you have some old FCP 7 projects you want to bring into FCP 12? If so, I may be able to help. I still have an old Mac Pro with FCP 7 installed. I don’t use it for editing any more, however I have used it to open an old FCP 7 project and export the XML data for use in FCP 12. I use the SendtoX app to move it into FCP 12. If that’s what you need to do, let me know. If you can send me the .fcp file and I may be able to get the XML exported for you.

If you are just looking for an app to edit video, don’t use FCP 7. It’s way too old and has not been supported for 15 years. Take Ian R. Brown’s advice and get DaVinci Resolve.

Unless you are keen to spend £300 for FCP 12.
