If you tap your iPhone screen and the lock screen appears as it should, if you don't interact with the phone, like slide up to your home screen, yes, the screen will go dark after 5 seconds. This is exactly how Apple designed it to work. You can't stop this as it's hard coded into how iOS works on iPhone. What I'm confused about is why you would want the lock screen to remain on, if you're not planning to use the phone for anything?
