Dock icons disappeared on Mac Studio

31 August 2026 most of the icons in my dock disappeared this evening. I'm running Tahoe 26.6.2 on a 2023 Mac Studio. Any ideas?

Customise the Dock

  • Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.
  • Click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  • Below Dock, change the options you want.
  • For example, you can change how items appear in the Dock, adjust its size, locate it along the left or right edge of the screen or even hide it.
  • To learn about the options, click ? at the bottom of the window.

Tip: To quickly adjust the Dock’s size, move the pointer over the separator line in the Dock until a double arrow appears, then click and drag the pointer down or up. You can Control-click the separator to access other actions from the shortcut menu.

Thank you but I already tried that. A couple of the icons are visible as they were before -- calendar, system settings, and passwords, and the section of the applications folder, downloads, and the trash can. Even the finder icon is missing. There are small dots below the icons for open applications, and when I hover the mouse over the blank spaces the label of the application appears for a moment. I also tried restarting the computer, thinking, well, maybe just a restart? But nothing. This is something that occurred spontaneously within the last six hours, having made no changes to the system settings or anything else.
