31 August 2026 most of the icons in my dock disappeared this evening. I'm running Tahoe 26.6.2 on a 2023 Mac Studio. Any ideas?

I fixed it by fiddling with the settings on the Appearance section of System Settings. I had to start by changing the folder color and then change the icon and widget style from default to tinted and back again to default. Strange, but that's what worked.

Tip: To quickly adjust the Dock’s size, move the pointer over the separator line in the Dock until a double arrow appears, then click and drag the pointer down or up. You can Control-click the separator to access other actions from the shortcut menu.
Thank you but I already tried that. A couple of the icons are visible as they were before -- calendar, system settings, and passwords, and the section of the applications folder, downloads, and the trash can. Even the finder icon is missing. There are small dots below the icons for open applications, and when I hover the mouse over the blank spaces the label of the application appears for a moment. I also tried restarting the computer, thinking, well, maybe just a restart? But nothing. This is something that occurred spontaneously within the last six hours, having made no changes to the system settings or anything else.
