Logic Pro 12 Sound Library storage for multiple users on Mac mini

We use Logic Pro in our secondary music classroom across 20 mini Macs. We wish to update now to Logic Pro 12, (scared of when originally released due to the bugs!).

Currently using Logic Pro 11 the Logic Sound Library (Loops and Software Instruments etc) is stored on each Mac mini and then can be accessed by any user that signs into that computer. Heard rumours that Logic 12 wants to install a full sound library for each user, we have over 500 students use the computers each week and this would just not be possible.

Does Logic 12 still save the sound library on each computer for every user to use, without duplicating it for every user?

Don't want to update if if it going to cause issues!

Yes, Logic Pro 12 changed how the Sound Library is stored, but you don’t need a separate full copy for every student account.

Logic 12 stores the library as one `Logic Pro Library.bundle`. Apple specifically recommends that, when multiple user accounts on the same Mac need access, an administrator move that bundle to `/Users/Shared`, then have each user point Logic Pro to that same library in Logic Pro > Settings > General > Sound Library.

So for your classroom setup, I’d update and configure one Mac first before deploying it to all 20. Move the library to the Shared folder and test it with a couple of different student accounts. That should avoid hundreds of duplicate libraries.

One thing to be aware of: after upgrading from Logic 11, Logic 12 converts/clones the existing Sound Library into the new bundle format. Apple says that process itself doesn’t require additional storage when the existing library is on the Mac.
