Apple Maps Not Functioning at All

Apple Maps hasn’t been functioning normally ever since upgrading to an iPhone 17 pro max and neither has texting. No matter what I do when trying to navigate it’s functionally useless. Anything from typing an address to the name of a business gets me nowhere. I’m being forced to use Google Maps like a peasant, and I thoroughly despise it.

Since Maps can’t return results for either a business name or a full address, I’d first rule out a network/settings issue rather than the address itself.

Try Maps once on Wi-Fi and once on cellular. Also check Settings > Cellular and make sure Maps is allowed to use cellular data. If you use a VPN or filtering/security app, temporarily disable it and test again; Apple specifically recommends checking those when Apple services won’t load properly.

Because texting is also acting up since moving to the new iPhone, I’d also go to Settings > General > About and wait a few seconds in case a carrier settings update is offered.

I wouldn’t reset network settings yet. If Maps works on Wi-Fi but not cellular, that would narrow this down considerably.

Since it fails on both Wi-Fi and cellular, I agree this no longer looks like a network issue.

The Messages detail is useful. I’d open the Contacts app and search for the same person by name. If Contacts also can’t find them by name, that points more toward a Contacts/search indexing problem after the move to the new iPhone.

Also try a normal Home Screen search for one of those contacts. If name searches are failing there too, I’d leave iCloud settings alone for now rather than toggling Contacts off and on, since that can affect locally stored contacts.

If Contacts and Home Screen search work normally but only Messages and Maps fail, that would narrow this down quite a bit.

I am using an iPhone 17 Pro Max with iOS 26.6.1. I have 1 Gbps Xfinity Internet, and 3 - 5 bars of 5G UC T-mobile cellular connectivity. I am using an ESIM. The phone is configured to use Internet when available before Cellular. I do not have any VPN service. My iPhone functionality works whether I am using the Xfinity Wi-Fi SSID, or a different Wi-Fi 6E SSID from a Netgear MR6550 hotspot receiving 5G data from T-Mobile.

Have you had any prior issues or changes with your Internet or Cellular provider lately?

I can enter a store name (e.g. walmart) in maps search field and immediately see all local area stores for that search argument. Same drill for a former street address. Bluetooth is off, and the phone is configured to use Internet before cellular. Texting works fine between other iPhones and Android devices.

In Settings > Apps > Maps, Location is set to while using the app and Precise Location is switched on. The preferred type of transit is set to driving.

Settings > Apps > Messages, everything under RCS Messaging is enabled.

I do not have Wi-Fi Assist or Wi-Fi calling enabled under Cellular.

It’s most definitely not a network issue. I pay for enterprise tier fiber optic internet and have speeds exceeding 800mbps and changing the network settings you suggested produced 0 result. Doesn’t seem to matter if I’m on WiFi or cellular. The texting issue is fairly bizarre too. If I type anything but a phone number in the search bar it fails to pull my contact I’m trying to text.
