Be sure that you are downloading the correct version.
If your MacBook Air has an Apple Silicon chip (M1, M2, M3, M4, or M5), it is compatible with the current version of LibreOffice. Click on the link for the (Apple Silicon) version.
LibreOffice – Download LibreOffice
If your MacBook Air has an Intel chip, and is running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, it is also compatible with the latest version of LibreOffice, but you should click on the link for the (Intel) version.
If your MacBook Air is running something older than Big Sur, and cannot be upgraded to Big Sur or later, you won't be able to run the current version of LibreOffice. However, you should be able to download an older, unsupported version of LibreOffice from the archives. You would want the 64-bit (x86_64) build, unless you had a truly ancient MacBook Air that by some chance was still running Mac OS X 10.5.* (Leopard).
