Siri 'Recognize My Voice' setup fails in Apple Home for one user
Apple Home repeatedly fails “Recognize My Voice” setup with “Could not complete operation”
I have a persistent Apple Home/Siri problem that has existed since at least July 31, 2026.
In the Home app on my iPhone, I am repeatedly prompted to enable Recognize My Voice for Siri. When I attempt to complete the setup, I receive:
“Could not complete operation.”
The setup then fails and the same prompt returns later.
There is an additional failure during the Siri/Intercom setup flow. When attempting to complete that setup, the same “Could not complete operation” error appears before the setup can be completed.
Important comparison: My wife is also a resident of the same Apple Home and does not have this problem. Her Siri/Home functionality works normally. I do not want to change her configuration because it is currently working.
Home configuration
- iPhone 17
- 26.6.1 updated last night
- Apple TV is the active Home Hub
- HomePod is also present in the Home
- My wife is the Home Owner
- I am a Resident
- I was originally a Resident; at some point later my status changed to Resident (Admin). The Siri problem existed before that status change, so the Admin status does not appear to be the cause.
Things already checked/tried
- Siri is enabled on my iPhone.
- iCloud access for Siri is enabled.
- Two-factor authentication is enabled.
- My iPhone is correctly associated with my Apple Account.
- My location is being shared from this iPhone.
- I am correctly listed as a Resident in the Home.
- Home permissions are enabled.
- I have attempted to turn Recognize My Voice off/on and repeat the setup.
- I have restarted the iPhone.
- I have restarted/restarted the relevant Home equipment.
- I have repeated the Siri voice-recognition setup.
- The Home Hub is functioning normally.
The problem persists.
The most significant diagnostic fact is that my wife can use the same Home without this problem, while my account repeatedly fails the voice-recognition provisioning process.
I am reluctant to remove/reinvite either resident, change Home ownership, reset the Home, or otherwise make disruptive changes because the Home itself is functioning and the other resident’s Siri/Home functionality works correctly.
This appears to be an account/device-specific Siri/Home provisioning problem rather than a general Home or network problem.
Has Apple seen this specific “Could not complete operation” failure during the Recognize My Voice setup, particularly when another resident in the same Home works normally?
