Stop Siri from responding to all speakers.

Siri on my iPhone responds to only my voice, or to only those with very similar voice; I've actually only known one other person that caused my siri to respond consistently. My iPad, on the other hand, responds to anyone. Regardless of supposedly correct responses given on similar questions; Siri has not and on some devices still does not always respond to anyone to say "hey siri" or "siri". Further, especially for phones; if Siri were to respond to all voices, in public spaces this would be immensely problematic, ultimately rendering the feature unusable. It makes some sense that Siri would respond to any voice in a home setting, but there certainly ought to be a setting limiting this behavior, just as my phone is, in absolute irrefutable fact, capable of not responding to every voice it hears. So what is the real answer to the question of how to get Siri to not respond to all voices. Do not tell me that all devices except home pod respond to all voices the same way, IT IS NOT TRUE.

Hungry? lol.

Siri voice activation was recently glitchy on my ipad.

I toggled Siri off completely (hey siri & home button) (note: this triggered a message saying my data would stay on Apple servers unless I turned off dictation – just mentioning that is something you can look for if you try this)

Then toggled both back on.

Doing this resolved my issue. It also initiated a short string of voice training commands. Maybe it would be worth trying in your case.

Only the HomePod has Voice Recognition to identify a user. When you set up Siri on iPhone/iPad you will go through the training sequence by saying certain phrases for activation, but that is only to fine tune the activation through minor differences in accents/dialects to weed out false activations. In no way is it used to identify a user.

Anytime Siri is used to call a person, run a shortcut, or access to any other personal data, it will require you to unlock the device first with Face ID/Touch ID and that is the authentication that allows Siri to perform an action, not the actual voice used. Other actions such as playing music, asking the time of day, etc, will not require authentication to unlock the device first.

I would also recommend to turn off Siri and back on to reset the training. Siri should still respond to others as long as their dialect/accent is similar to what was used in the set up to prevent false activations. It certainly does not have to be the exact same as yours, but that is the purpose of the training sequence in the setup so Siri is not activated by a wide range of similar sounding words.

Apple iOS and iPadOS devices do not have a built-in security setting that restricts the "Siri" or "Hey Siri" hotword trigger exclusively to one registered human voice.

Yes, I have seen this answer repeated many times in different ways, to users who's devices have begun responding to all speakers. Clearly though, these users are not simply observing a behavior that has existed the entire time. It is very clear that my phone, for instance, does not respond to all speakers the same way my iPad does; when my phone is placed adjacent to, or in the same room as my iPad, only the iPad will respond to my children or visitors as well as myself; the phone however, responds exclusively to my voice. To the same point; if I say "hey siri, call mom" in a crowded elevator, the phones of others do not all begin dialing mom. It would appear that, at the very least, iOS handles siri voice requests differently vs iPadOS. I may be remembering something incorrectly but, I seem to remember, in a past version of iOS, a setting somewhere that allowed siri to recognize all speakers requests optionally. Maybe this was a dream? Regardless of that; I will attempt the actions suggested above by lukeairure46 to see what happens as, I don't necessarily want my children to run arbitrary shortcuts or to abuse poor Siri : ) Hopefully the upcoming updates will fix this and some of the more annoying UI oversights e.g. multiple colocated apple devices responding simultaneously to Siri requests.

I ended up turning off voice recognition due to Siri responding without being prompted. More than once when I was typing a message if someone else said something at the same time, what they said would get added to my message. Also I noticed it would pick up conversations from my television and start typing if my messages were open. So annoying to constantly remove info. That wasn’t my own embedded in the middle of my texts.
