Yes, 96% Maximum Capacity after 241 charge cycles and about 22 months of use is a healthy result for an iPhone 16 Pro Max.


Apple states that batteries in iPhone 15 models and later are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions.


Your battery is therefore still well above that design benchmark.


It is also worth remembering that battery aging is not linear. Maximum Capacity may remain unchanged for some time and then decrease, and the exact percentage depends on how the iPhone is regularly used and charged.


You can continue to monitor it in Settings > Battery > Battery Health.


There is normally no reason to consider battery service based on 96% Maximum Capacity alone, particularly if battery life and performance remain satisfactory and no service recommendation appears there.

The battery is expected to decline.....on average.....at about 1% for every 50 Charge Cycles.


To make things simple, let's say that your battery has completed 250 Cycles. So, 250 divided by 50 equals 5%.


100% minus 5% equals 95%.


If your current Battery Health / Maximum Capacity is displayed as 96%, your battery is doing just a bit better than expected. You have an excellent battery.


Now, here's an interesting fact. Apple does not display any tenths of a percent in the battery settings and they round down the number to the lower figure. So, your battery displayed at 96% right now might really be at 96.0%. And, if the charge declines .1% to 95.9%, the settings will display 95% at the current Maximum Capacity.


Your battery might decline only .1% , but the new number will show as 95%. So, it looks like your battery declined 1% when it really only declined .1%.


So, don't be concerned when it looks like the battery has dropped 1% from the previous setting within a short period of time. In fact, you don't need to be checking the battery settings all the time. It won't help, because the battery is going to do what it is going to do.


Overall, your battery is doing great.

I am impressed that you managed to lose only 4% in 22 months. That is far above average for a device that is in use every single day since purchase, regardless of cycle count.


Lithium Ion batteries are rechargeable by design.


As part of that design are the electrolytes that hold a charge.


There are allot of steps and various machines that are used to construct a battery.


Between those assembly steps, the batteries are carefully inspected along the way, often in devices used to magnify the various components several times during the production process.


There are various tests to ensure that there are no leaks.


I used to assemble Li Ion batteries.

I can assure you that the failure rate is extremely low.


What you have experienced is normal and expected.


All rechargeable batteries are consumable components that become less effective as they chemically age.


Recent software updates can accelerate that process by adding features that consume more power.


As lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in shorter amounts of time before a device needs to be recharged.


Li Ion (Lithium Ion) batteries have recharging capabilities; however there are limits.


Temperature Effects on Li Ion Battery Life:

  • Capacity loss in standby applications is largely determined by temperature
  • Annual capacity loss tends to decline as the battery ages
  • 80% remaining capacity is generally not the end of a lithium battery's useful life, but recommended by Apple for replacement


I recommend to slow charge your iPhone to maximize the charge capacity, battery health and efficiency. ⚡️🔋


NOTE: Temperature: Charge above -30°C and Discharge below 55°C. Apple won’t replace the battery until it reaches 80% capacity.
