iMessage notifications not received after changing phone time

For the past few days, I’ve been having an issue where I’m not receiving notifications from the iMessage app. It started after I manually changed the time on my phone. When I switched the time setting back to automatic, the notifications stopped showing up, and this only affects iMessage.

I don’t have Do Not Disturb or any Focus mode enabled. iMessage notifications are not disabled either. Restarting my phone didn’t help. Installing the latest update didn’t help. Turning iMessage off and back on didn’t help either.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Since this started right after changing the clock manually, I’d first make sure Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically is on and that the time zone shown there is correct.

Then check Settings > Notifications > Messages and make sure Messages isn’t included in a Scheduled Summary. Also open one affected conversation, tap the name at the top, and make sure Hide Alerts isn’t enabled.

One detail would help narrow this down: when a new iMessage arrives, does the Messages app show a badge/unread message and you’re only missing the banner or sound, or is there no notification indication at all?

That helps narrow it down — the messages are arriving, but the alerts themselves aren’t being presented.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Messages and check that Lock ScreenNotification Center, and Banners are all enabled, and that Sounds has an actual sound selected.

If those are already set correctly, do you have an Apple Watch paired with this iPhone? That can affect where notifications are delivered, especially while the iPhone is locked.

I have the time zone set to automatic. I also tried turning it off and back on again, followed by restarting my phone, but that didn’t help either.

I don’t have notifications muted for any of my conversations.

When someone sends me a message, the number of unread messages appears on the Messages app icon, but I don’t get a notification banner on either the Lock Screen or when the phone is unlocked. There is also no notification sound.
