Safari can't load reddit in new tabs

I'm having a weird problem in Safari on both OS X and iPadOS with regards to opening things in new background tabs. Wondering if anyone else has had this and know the fix.

Reddit is the website this happens 100% of the time. If I open a page/thread in a new background tab it won't load. Even when I go to the tab itself and hit refresh it won't load. Any link from Reddit that is opened in a new tab just won't function regardless of refreshing or anything. It's like the tab just opens completely broken and is completely corrupted and unusable. I have to copy and paste the address in a new tab and watch it load for it to work. If I navigate through a link in the current active window without it being in a new tab it will work though. This does not happen in Chrome browser so it is a Safari issue.

I've been trawling Apple support and Reddit for anyone who has had this problem before or knows a fix but I've had no luck. Hoping someone might have experienced this and knows a way to address the issue.

I've tried clearing internet files/cache, restarting, I'm not sure what else to try. I do not have an AdBlocker.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not having any issues opening reddit tabs in the background either on my Mac or iPad.

How do you open the link? Right-click > Open Link in New Tab? Or click the link while pressing the command key?

Try to compare the web address opened in the background tab (the one that doesn't open) with the web address you can copy.
