Apple Watch SE 3 Workout app touch not working to start workouts

The workout app on my new SE 3 does not work with my finger touch, only by asking Siri to start my workout. I turned the watch off and on, deleted and reinstalled it and it still doesn’t work to turn on by my finger touch, though it does end or pause by touch. Also, when Siri turns it on, I always get the annoying message about texting a buddy and can’ t figure out how to delete it. I would appreciate help, as guide doesn’t seem to address either issue
