It varies. You’d have to ask Apple that question, as only they know what happened with the iPad, and what replacement parts or replacement iPads they might currently have available.

For practical purposes, in lieu of repairing and returning your own iPad, Apple usually exchange a qualifying iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification.

As Apple doesn't offer in-store iPad repairs, offering an exchange is much quicker than sending an iPad to a regional repair partner, fixing and returning. For in-stock exchanges, these are often completed same day. If the replacement has to be ordered, replacement typically occurs within a day or two.
