No Nest notifications after latest updates.

It seems like every time I get an Apple update on my phone and IPad, the notifications for my Nest camera and locks stop working. Is this coincidence? Everything I’ve tried doesn’t work. Anyone else have these problems?

Perhaps a long shot:

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN, then restart your device. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. Updates sometimes "break" VPN, and it needs to be removed. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN, but probably shouldn't.

If standard toggling didn’t work, try this specific sequence to re-forge the notification handshake between iOS and your devices:

  • Isolate iOS Permissions: Go to Settings > Notifications, select the Nest app (and/or Google Home app, depending on which you use to manage your gear), and toggle Allow Notifications completely Off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back On. Ensure Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are explicitly checked.
  • Check Background App Refresh: Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and make sure it is turned On globally and specifically enabled for Nest/Google Home.
  • Verify Focus/Do Not Disturb: iOS updates frequently re-introduce or re-configure default Focus profiles. Double-check that a stray profile isn't silencing your smart home tools.
  • Perform a Hard Reset of App Alerts: Log out of the Nest/Google Home app entirely, delete the app from both your iPhone and iPad, restart the devices, reinstall the app, and log back in to force a fresh push notification token.
