Apple asks for your old device passcode or screen lock to verify your identity and decrypt end-to-end encrypted iCloud data (like saved passwords and messages) when you try to reset your account credentials on a new or unfamiliar loop.

If you do not remember the old passcode and cannot approve the reset from a trusted device, you must use Account Recovery to regain access to your Apple Account.

How to Bypass and Start Account Recovery

  1. Go to the official account recovery  page at iforgot.apple.com using a web browser.
  2. Enter your Apple ID email address.
  3. Choose the option that you cannot access your other devices or reset your password.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to enter a current reachable phone number for verification.
  5. Turn off all other Apple devices signed in with your Apple Account. Keeping them on can cancel or delay the recovery process.
  6. Apple will send a text or automated call with updates, and eventually provide a specific date and time when you can regain access and create a new password.

If you still have the trusted phone number, this process can be speeded up
