Pointer randomly ignores Wrist setting and falls back to eye tracking, plus a duplicate Depth Ray

I've been dealing with a recurring, seemingly random Pointer issue on Vision Pro (visionOS 26.6.1).

I'm not comfortable using eye tracking and much prefer wrist tracking, but sometimes the Pointer just won't lock onto my wrist and falls back to tracking my eyes instead — even though "Wrist" is clearly selected under Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control.

The pointer position also drifts and doesn't line up with what I'm actually pointing at. With Show Depth Ray turned on, I get two rays instead of one: one runs correctly from my hand up to the pointer, and a second one shoots off from the same pointer in a completely different direction (screenshot attached — you can see both lines meeting at the pointer dot).

Reset All Settings sometimes clears it, but not reliably. I've reset up to 5 times in a row and had it stick around. And even when it does clear, the bug comes back at random with no trigger I can identify.

I've already reported this to Apple Support by phone — they logged the case, but it's been several months with no fix.

Has anyone else run into this? Any workarounds would be much appreciated.

Other users have experienced this exact wrist-pointer fallback and duplicate depth ray bug, and because an official system patch is still pending, you have to rely on manual workarounds to force the sensors to reset their tracking state.

Try this

  • Toggle Pointer Control Off and On: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Interaction > Pointer Control, turn the feature completely off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back to Wrist.
  • Use the Accessibility Shortcut: Set up an Accessibility Shortcut (quad-click the top button) to quickly turn Pointer Control on and off without digging through the main settings menu.
  • Redo Hand and Eye Setup: Rapidly press the top button four times to launch the direct calibration environment, or go to Settings > Eyes & Hands to fully recalibrate your tracking.
  • Hard Restart the Device: Completely power down your Apple Vision Pro by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery pack, which clears corrupted temporary sensor states more deeply than a standard sleep cycle.
  • Clean the External Cameras: Ensure the front tracking cameras and sensors on the outside of your headset are wiped clean with a polishing cloth, as minor smudges can trick the device into dropping accurate hand-mesh tracking.
