How to fix greyed out charging case sounds on AirPods Pro?

“My AirPods Pro 3 are connected and on the latest firmware, but the ‘Enable Charging Case Sounds’ option is permanently greyed out. I’ve already restarted my iPhone, reset and re-paired the AirPods, and updated the software. The same option is also greyed out on my MacBook. I found reports of other AirPods Pro 3 users having the same issue.”

To fix the greyed-out charging case sounds option, you need to perform a correct factory reset specifically designed for AirPods Pro 3 using the front-case double-tap method while they are forgotten from your device.

How to Fix Greyed-Out Charging Case Sounds

  • Forget the device: Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone, tap the More Info button (the "i" icon) next to your AirPods Pro 3, and select Forget This Device.
  • Wait: Leave the AirPods in their charging case with the lid closed for 30 seconds.
  • Open the lid: Open the charging case lid.
  • Perform the specialized reset: For AirPods Pro 3, double-tap the front of the case while the status light is on, double-tap again when it flashes white, double-tap a third time when it flashes faster, and wait until the light flashes amber and then white.
  • Reconnect: Hold the case near your iPhone with the lid open and follow the onscreen setup prompts.
