Strong acetone smell from brand new MacBook Air

I bought a brand new MacBook Air approximately 3 weeks ago. The moment I opened it at home, i noticed an overwhelming smell of acetone. I placed it somewhere to sort of air out assuming it was from the packaging. Now some time as passed & I have noticed that every time i open it, i still smell acetone. What could this be from? It’s truly overwhelming & makes it hard to enjoy the computer.

Did you buy it from Apple? It didn't happen when I bought mine. Acetone (if that's what it is) is extremely volatile and you'd have to spill a heck of a lot for it still to be evaporating three weeks later. Have you removed all the protective plastic from the Mac. I'm not saying that's causing it - just asking.

Unfortunately you've missed the 14-day free return period (assuming you bought from Apple), but if it still smells then book a genius bar appointment and have it looked at.

Did you return it and get a new one? I bought an AirM5 and the smell when it came out of the box was overwhelming. It was so bad I exchanged it for a new one before the 14 day window was up. Well, I have had this one 4 months and I am still dealing with the strong weird chemical smell. If I close it, when I open it the smell hits me in the face. My eyes get irritated and I will get a headache if I use it too long. I bought it to the Apple Store, they looked inside and said "it's fine". I explained it was not fine and I am not able to use it but they were dismissive and not interested. I have seen other folks claiming the same type of issue.
