iMessage incorrectly asking for parent/guardian approval despite being an adult
On my iMessage, I’m unable to message some of my contacts. Their messages appear as “Preview Hidden,” and when I click on the message, I’m prompted to “Ask a Parent or Guardian to approve this person.”
However, I’m an adult, and I’m also the Family Organiser on my family’s Apple account, which I share with my mum. As the Family Organiser, I understand that I’m automatically considered a parent or guardian for any children in the family, meaning I can manage parental controls, and receive Screen Time and Ask to Buy requests.
The issue is that when I click “Ask to Approve,” I get an error saying, “Can’t Ask — An unknown error has occurred.”
I’ve already verified my age, restarted my phone, and checked my settings to make sure there aren’t any parental controls or other restrictions causing the issue, but nothing has worked.
I’m really not sure what else I can do to resolve this. Could you please help me understand why this is happening and how I can fix it? Is this to do with the new iOS 26.6.1 update?
