Apple TV remote microphone search function not working

The microphone search function on my AppleTV remote no longer works. It's not that the remote is broken or lacks charge, the button just doesn't do anything. It stopped randomly with no noticeable change otherwise. There is no option in the search bar for the microphone, either. I've seen this question asked for voice search not working with specific apps, but this isn't working for any app.

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 26

I’d check Settings > General > Siri first and make sure Siri is still turned on. On tvOS 26, the microphone button is the Siri/Search button, so if Siri has been disabled the button may appear to do nothing. (Apple Support¹)

If Siri is already on, restart the remote by holding the TV/Control Center button + Volume Down together until the Apple TV status light turns off and back on, then try again. Apple recommends that when a Siri Remote isn’t behaving normally. (Apple Support²)

If the button still does absolutely nothing in every app, I’d also test the Siri button from the Apple TV Remote in Control Center on an iPhone. That would help narrow down whether this is tvOS/Siri or the physical remote.
