iPad Magic Keyboard stopped talking to my 11” iPad M4
My iPad Magic Keyboard stopped talking to my 11” iPad M4 (iOS 26.6.1). I did all the troubleshoot steps e.g. software update and reset, talked to chat support, sadly didn’t work. It seems to be the keyboard —iPad works with other keyboards but keyboard still doesn’t work with other iPads. Today went to the Apple Store Genius Bar where they said you cannot fix these $300 keyboards, which is 2yo, and I need to get a new one. They also tried to upsell me to replace my iPad, which is 2 yo and works fine, to be able to get Apple care. Their attempted solution was to plug in the iPad Magic Keyboard to “charge” it and when that didn’t work they said that charging habits maybe wore out the battery on this accessory faster than normal. I’ve been reading more posts and articles and my understanding now is that the iPad Magic Keyboard DOES NOT HAVE A BATTERY and is direct powered by the iPad through one of the three connector pads. Were these Apple Store Geniuses completely wrong? If there is a battery can it be changed? If is not a dead battery would anyone have suggestions for potential solutions I could try for this very expensive, essentially disposable accessory that cost $150/y to rent for 2 yrs? As a long time Apple ecosystem denizen I’m really disappointed in the inferior quality of this accessory ☹️Thanks so much!
