  • Fraudulent charges are always reported to your financial institution that approved the charge, not to the merchant or Apple.
  • If you think your Account is compromised, then change your password and review the information provided here.

Now to those charges, it is best to provide a bit more detail to determine what had happened and if either of the 2 prior cases are true. The first thing you want to do is identify the exact description of the charge on your bank statement. That way we will know if you are being billed by Apple or another merchant is billing you, and if you happened to have started a free trial to that app. If you are being billed by Apple, then you will see what the purchase was for in your Billing history. I recommend using the method titled "How to see your purchase history on your device".

Any purchase on your device that is managed by Apple, requires the user to approve the transaction by double clicking the side button with the terms/amount showing on the screen, followed by authentication with Face ID/Touch ID or Passcode.

  • Only you or someone you have given your Passcode to can make a purchase on your device that is managed by Apple. If you allow someone to use your device, you have taken responsibility for their actions and have authorized them to make purchases by giving them the Passcode.. It is still possible to prevent them from making purchases, but you have to be proactive and turn on those Screen Time controls or require a unique password for purchases that they would not know.
  • All Free Trials will become a subscription and you will be charged as seen on the Approval Screen requiring you to double click the side button. It says to avoid the subscription charge, you should cancel the free trial at least a day before the trial ends.
  • If you are the Organizer of a Family Sharing plan that uses Purchase Sharing, that allows member of the plan to make purchases using your payment method. You can still see those purchases viewing your Purchase History, but you have to choose their name in the Family.
  • And finally, here is a User Tip that discusses the 4 reasons why you may see a charge you do not recognize and what to do about it.

How to see what you were charged for

  1. To see your purchase history, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  2. Sign in to your Apple Account.
  3. If Family Sharing is enabled, you can see your family members’ purchases. Select the Apple Account menu and choose a family member.
  4. To see the full receipt, including tax, tap or click the purchase date. Multiple purchases, including subscriptions, might be grouped onto one charge.

You can also view your Purchase History on your device.

If you still can't identify the charge

If you checked reportaproblem.apple.com and you're still not sure why you were charged, contact Apple Support.
