Updates for iPad Minis

Apple does not pre-announce end-of-support for iPad models or other devices. That said, history demonstrates that Apple may continue software and security updates for iPad for five to seven years from initial model release - latter years being restricted to "point" security updates.

All contributors here are all end-users, just like you. Beyond information publicly released by Apple, contributors have no knowledge or insight than past history with other devices might suggest.

The iPad mini5 was released in March 2019. As such, you might reasonably surmise that the mini5 is well within the twilight period of update support. The iPad mini5 can be updated to iPadOS 26.6.x, but does not support iPadOS 27 or later.

iPadOS 26 is the "end of the line" for 5th-generation iPad minis.

Apple might continue to provide some security and bug fix updates for iPadOS 26 after iPadOS 27 comes out, but based on past history, you should not expect iPadOS 26 to receive any new features. Or to receive Safari 27.*. On iPhones and iPads, the latest major version of Safari typically requires the latest major version of iOS or iPadOS.

Even though iPadOS first came out in September 2024, there was an iPadOS 18.7.10 update a few weeks ago to provide fixes to various theoretical security vulnerabilities identified in CVEs.

don't believe they have an official timespan / version numbers for security only

but it will not be supporting ipados27
