Understanding Pages, Preview, and Freeform apps and opening documents on iPad

iPad Preview , Pages & Freeform …

I'm not grasping how these three apps differ from one another ?

I have docs in Pages that I can't open .

If I put a document from Pages into Freeform , are there two of them ?

I have Preview off-loaded , "get info" says that there isn't an app to open the Pages document ?

Wha do they do about the two versions of Pages apps ?

All three apps use too much space .

I'm so confused !

On iPadOS 26, Pages exclusively opens Pages documents. Preview exclusively opens images and PDFs.

An explanation about Freeform's purpose: Get started with Freeform on iPad - Apple Support. It uses a proprietary .freeform file extension and that is only openable in the Freeform application. Not Pages, or Preview.

There should be only one Pages application on your iPadOS 26.2.2 and its version is currently 15.3.
