I gave my daughter my old I pad sorry I can't remember the version but its around 6 to 8 years old she can't remember her pass code to get in now it says 7 hours 50 minutes before we can try again, we need help!!!!

For a very old iPad, you will likely need a Mac or PC to reset the Passcode. This support article shows you how and also has a link to do it without a computer for iPads that are capable, although you may need to wait until that time has expired. The time continually increases when a wrong Passcode has been attempted, so continuing to do that just increases how long you would have to wait.
