Music app volume adjust and equalizer not working on iMac M1

iMac M1 OS27

In the Music app > Get Info > Options there are "volume adjust" and "equalizer"

Neither work and they haven't worked for several OSs. What gives? It doesn't seem like it should be this big a problem to fix.

I can move the slider and the EQ menu but doing so doesn't provide any audio feedback as I change to the adjustments and the adjustments don't even work when I quit the song and try again or even quit Music and try again.
