iMac can't find external Time Machine backup drive
I just realized that my external Time Machine hard drive hasn't been plugged in to my iMac for over a month.
I plugged it in.
Thing was, the time machine could be read for finding the older data, but it wasn't backing up when I manually tried to get it to back up.
So I tried Disk Utility, and it couldn't find it. I went to Time Machine preferences, I saw an icon for it, but I couldn't select it as the preferrred drive to use.
So I deleted it from the choices and then restarted my computer.
Now, I can't find the drive in utilities and can't find it in disc utility.
Is there a way to recover it and get it working again?
FWIW, system is Monterey 12.7.6
