Can I upgrade/update macOS Monterey to more current MacOS system?

I have an old iMac (retina 4k, 21.5-inch, late 2015) running on macOS Monterey version 12.7.6. Is there a way for me to upgrade or update software to a more current macOS system?

Monterey is the end of the line for that Mac. Monterey no longer receives the latest versions of Safari, or is one of the "most recent three" supported by vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe.

It is enough to run current versions of

  • The Firefox Web browser, and most other major third-party Web browsers
  • LibreOffice
  • The parts of Affinity Studio that are "free with registration"
  • The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)
