Patriots Day on Calendar

I wish Apple would list Patriots day on the calendar. I don't believe it's because it's not a national holiday

Hey @bonny7575 –

iCal is just one of those apps where it makes more sense to customize to your own needs/interests.

To that end, you have a couple options for adding Patriot Day (or Patriot’s Day, for that matter - lol) to yours:

  • You could create an event that recurs annually. This is the simplest and most straightforward solution.
  • You could also find & subscribe to a third-party maintained shared calendar that does include it. (These will have a .ics file extension. If you want help finding options, just lmk.)

Additional Context/Discussion (optional):

I genuinely do not think there’s any underlying motive for the exclusion of Patriot Day.

If you scroll through the calendar year and see what events populate from the ‘US Holidays’ calendar, you’ll notice that it’s kinda a smorgasbord rather than a comprehensive list of all holidays recognized at a national level. While all 11 federal holidays are included, the vast majority of the gazillion (approximately) public holidays, observances, and so-called ‘special’ days (designated by presidential proclamation, like Patriot Day), are not.

I won’t take you on a full guided tour of the whole holiday history, classification, and controversy rabbit-hole. (You’re welcome. 🙃). But it’s actually more interesting than I thought it’d be, so I will signpost a Wikipedia-based starting point in case you want to learn more.

Cheers
