Questions Marks instead of Letters

Why is a website showing Question Marks in Boxes instead of letters? MACOS Sequoia.

Meeting legions of ⍰ glyphs usually means the website has a character-encoding error, or has a data corruption.


In addition to the previous reply, remove any add-on security apps, any add-on VPN apps, or related.


Clear the local cache for the website. Clear your cache and cookies in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

If it’s only happening on one website, I’d suspect the site’s font isn’t loading correctly rather than a problem with macOS itself.


Try reloading the page first. If that doesn’t help, open the same site in a Private Window and temporarily disable any Safari content blockers or extensions for that site.


If other websites display normally, the issue is most likely with that website. If you’re seeing the boxed question marks on many sites, that would help narrow it down.
