Unable to set Touch ID on MacBook Neo due to incorrect password

If your Mac accepts your password when you sign in but rejects it when you select Add Fingerprint, the prompt is asking for your Mac login password, not your Apple Account password. Apple confirms that adding a fingerprint requires the Mac password. Apple: Use Touch ID on Mac

Since you’ve already restarted the Mac, first confirm that the same password successfully unlocks your Mac at the login screen. Also check System Settings >> General >> Software Update and install any available macOS updates.

Apple requires the Mac login password when adding a fingerprint. 

First, restart the Mac, make sure macOS is up to date, and try System Settings >> Touch ID & Password >> Add Fingerprint again. 

Make sure the Touch ID sensor and your finger are clean and dry and that you are positioning your finger correctly.

If the same password is still rejected specifically during fingerprint enrollment, you can use Safe Mode as a diagnostic test. 

Because the MacBook Neo is an Apple silicon Mac, shut it down ( Do not use Restart ) , press and hold the power button until Loading startup options appears, select the startup disk, hold Shift, and choose Continue in Safe Mode. 

Then try adding the fingerprint again.

If the password is accepted elsewhere but continues to be rejected only during Touch ID enrollment, the exact error message would be important before recommending further steps. 

That information could help distinguish between a password-entry problem and a problem occurring specifically during Touch ID setup.
